Zinsser Peel Stop bonds to old paints and problematic areas forming a sound platform to apply an emulsion paint over. Seals using an acrylic latex film that prevents future peeling, locking in any moisture that may escape.
Occasionally, after paint has been scraped and sanded off, gaps can remain and Peel Stop can effectively fix and glue this substrate in place and this will prevent crazing, peeling, blistering, cracking and flaking on wood siding or trim made from yellow pine, cedar, textured plywood, concrete, concrete block, stucco and galvanised gutters.
- Alternatively, for overly porous, dusty, chalky or dry substrates, consider Zinsser Gardz
For the best results with Peel Stop, ensure that surfaces painted are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- Scrape surface with a flat bladed scraper, multi-tool or filler knife to remove any loose or poorly adhered paint
- Lightly sand the surface to smooth out and remove further loose fragments
- Dull any glossy areas with sandpaper
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not use on exterior projects if there is a chance of rain.
- Stir thoroughly before and during use, making sure to reach the pigment in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply with a synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or airless sprayer, working deep into cracks
- Do not use a natural bristle brush
- Spot prime areas where paint has been scraped or sanded off
- In most cases, only one coat is necessary excessively porous surfaces or dull spots that appear may require a second coat a second coat
- Allow 2 hours before further decoration, however if Peel Stop has seeped under the edges of remaining paint layers or has filled cracks, this will take longer to dry than product on exposed surfaces
For the best finish and opacity, Zinsser Peel Stop should be finished with a priming coat of either Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 or Zinsser Cover Stain prior to the application of a high-quality emulsion.
