Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler is the ultimate choice in repairing split or cracked wood, providing a smooth, sandable finish ready for a topcoat. Supreme durability for a wide range of projects on interior or exterior wood. Helps re-build rotten timber when used in conjunction with a suitable wood hardener.
Pick a coloured filler closer to the end result of your project: If you're staining a dark colour, opt for a darker coloured filler. Transparent stains will react differently and give a different colour on both the filler and the surrounding wood. By using a filler that is closer to the target or finished colour this will blend in better and look much more natural, like stained wood.
For the best results, with Ronseal wood filler, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.
- Remove any loose or flaking finishes from the treatment area, if necessary
- Lightly sand directly before application of the filler
- Soft, rotten wood should be treated with an appropriate wood hardening solution before filler is applied
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
- Mix a pea-sized amount of catalyst to a golf ball sized amount of filler (approximately 38mm or 1.5 inches across), using a folding action for even distribution of catalyst
- Mix on a stable surface, such as the lid of the tin, until an even colour is reached
- Apply with a filler knife, applying well into the damaged area
- Drag the flat side of the filler knife over treatment area, giving a flat, even finish and removing any excess
- Use any excess removed and repeat above steps to give a flush, flat finish
- Working time of mixed filler and catalyst is approximately 10 mins, depending on environmental conditions, discard any unused material after this point
- After 20 mins, the filler can be shaped and carved with a modelling knife if necessary
- After 30 mins, it can be sanded planed and filed
- Once set hard, finish with a suitable paint or film forming, varnish-based wood stain
Once Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler is fully dry, it can be sanded, planed, filed and have nails and screws driven into it. Finish with a film forming topcoat such as paint. Best used in conjunction with our wide range of Ronseal finishes.
