For the best results, use lighter colours in areas exposed to high levels of sunlight. The longevity of the finish will vary depending on the paint colour and the type and condition of the timber or existing paintwork. A south-facing position and the level of shade throughout the day will also affect lifespan.
For the best results from Ronseal 10-year Weatherproof Exterior Wood Paint, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.
- Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with a suitably coloured option of Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler
- Treat any knots in the wood with a suitable knotting solution
- Lightly sand with P120 sandpaper, going with the grain of the wood for a key, removing all sanding dust when done
- Any failing or defective coatings should be completely removed with sanding and treated as bare wood
- Lightly sand existing sound coatings with P240 for adhesion and remove all sanding dust
- Wash the surface down with white spirit to clean and degrease and allow this to dry thoroughly for several hours prior to application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
- Stir thoroughly before and during use, making sure to include pigment gathered in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply two coats with a high-quality synthetic bristle brush, painting in the direction of the grain
- Allow 4 hours between coats
- Apply 2 coats to previously coated wood, 3 to bare and new timber
When it's time for a refresh, sand off any loose paint or blisters and recoat with 2 coats of Ronseal 10 Year Weatherproof Wood Paint - Satin following the instructions above
