Please note, using Osmo Top Oil Natural (3068) and White (3037) on slightly darker colour woods such as beech and walnut and other harder woods may produce a patchy, milky finish and therefore isn't recommended.
For the best results with Osmo Top Oil, ensure that surfaces to be oiled are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- All previous paint and varnishes must be removed back to bare wood with a suitable paint stripper and sanded working up through the grits, finishing no finer than P120
- Previous oil and wax finishes can be just lightly sanded with P120 and then wiped down with methylated spirits to remove any sanding residue
- On bare wood, ensure gaps and nail holes are filled with a suitable filler, such as Osmo Interior Gap Sealer for long, linear splits
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Stir thoroughly before and during use.
- Working in smaller, manageable areas, apply very thinly using Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller
- Remove any excess as you go with microfibre cloth, lint-free cotton cloth or Osmo Easy Pads
- With Natural (3068), white pigment should not be seen on the surface, keep removing excess until this is the case
- Brushes can be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000)
- Allow 24 hours to dry between coats for the tinted options, 8-10 hours for the Clear Matt (3058) and Clear Satin (3028)
- De-nib the surface with an abrasive pad or sandpaper at p150-p180 and vacuum to remove all sanding dust
- Apply the second coat in the same manner
- Allow 24 hours before light use of the worktop is resumed, full cure will be achieved in 2-3 weeks, so care should be taken until this point
Day to day cleaning of Osmo Top Oil should be carried out with a pH neutral cleaner on an as-and-when basis.
When it's time to refresh and renovate, lightly sand the surface to be treated with P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, remove all sanding dust with a vacuum and apply one maintenance coat to the affected using the preparation and application steps above.
