Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044) is a very lightly tinted wood oil to give the natural, unfinished look to surfaces made from paler, blonder wood species such as pine, spruce, larch and oak. It contains a very small amount of white pigment to offset the natural "wet look" given by clear products. It's perfect for nearly any wood project such as floors, doors, furniture, worktops, children's toys and furniture and much more.
- Prefer a richer finish with a slight sheen? See Osmo Polyx Oil
Please note: this product is designed for paler wood types and white pigment will not be seen with correct application to these specific types. Due to this white pigment, this product will not be suitable for medium to hard woods as this will give a white blotchy or streaky finish. Species of wood to avoid would include Walnut, Cedar, Cork, Iroko, Mahogany, Teak, Ipe, Wenge. Test areas are encouraged to ensure compatibility.
For the best results with Osmo Raw, ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- All previous finishes must be removed back to bare wood with a suitable paint stripper and sanded, starting coarse working up through the grits and finishing no finer than P120
- On bare wood, ensure gaps and nail holes are filled with a suitable filler, such as Osmo Interior Gap Sealer for long, linear splits
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin.
- Stir Osmo Polyx Oil Raw thoroughly before and during use, making sure to reach the contents in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Working in smaller, manageable areas, apply very thinly using Osmo Soft Tip Brush for smaller projects and Osmo Microfiber Floor Roller for larger areas such as floors
- Remove any excess as you go with microfibre cloth, lint-free cotton cloth or Osmo Easy Pads
- Allow 24 hours between coats to dry
- De-nib the surface with a P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, using a vacuum to remove all sanding dust
- Apply second coat in the same manner, applying very thinly
- Allow 24 hours before resuming light use of the area, full hardness and cure will be achieved over 2-3 weeks after the final coat
- Ventilate well and avoid putting floor covering furniture, rugs and carpets back on the area if possible, during this curing stage
Day to day cleaning of Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044) should be carried out with a pH neutral cleaner on an as-and-when basis. For larger areas, an electric floor polisher can be used.
Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this will destroy the oiled finish.
When it's time to refresh and renovate, lightly sand the surface to be treated with P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, remove all sanding dust with a vacuum and apply one maintenance coat to the affected using the preparation and application steps above.
