For best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.
- Remove all loose and defective paint with a paint scraper by sanding or with a paint stripper
- Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
- Where necessary, wash the surface to remove dirt, grease and powdery or dusty residues
- Fill any surface defects with an appropriate filler, sand smooth and remove dust with a lint-free cloth
- Seal all powdery or heavily stained surfaces with Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
- Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use making sure to include pigment gathered in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply with a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller, conventional spray or airless spray system
- Seal new or bare surfaces with a thinned first coat of Dulux Trade Sterishield Diamond Matt, see below
- The normal finishing process is 2 full coats, for significant colour change, further coats may be required
- Allow 2 to 4 hours between coats and 4 hours to fully dry
