Dulux Trade All Purpose Primer is a solvent-based primer suitable for use on interior and exterior wood, metal and masonry. Perfect for a wide range of projects.
Please note: this product is not suitable for highly resinous, tropical wood, galvanised steel or new plaster.
- Also available: Dulux Trade Quick Dry Wood Primer Undercoat, a water-based, quick drying option for a wide range of exterior wood
Ensure surfaces to be primed are clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, wax or oil before treatment. Use an oil and grease remover to clean the surface if necessary
- Remove any mould or organic growth with Dulux Trade Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash
- Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
- Treat any knots in wood with a suitable knotting solution
- With iron and steel, remove all loose scale and rust by thorough scraping and wire brushing. Leave new bright galvanised metal to weather and become dull before priming
- Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth or vacuum all traces of sanding dust. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and compatibility of the finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. This product is not suitable for spray application.
- Stir the thoroughly before and periodically during use, making sure to reach pigment in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply 1 coat of Dulux Trade All Purpose Primer with a good quality natural bristle brush or microfibre roller
- Apply a second coat to badly rusted metal surfaces
- Allow to dry for 6 hours between coats and before application of a topcoat
- Follow up with 1 or 2 coats of a suitable Dulux Trade topcoat
Once fully dry, surfaces primed with Dulux Trade All Purpose Primer can be over-coated with a suitable Dulux Trade top coat. See our full range of Dulux Trade finishes, here.
