Craig and Rose Artisan Stainless Steel Effect is a water based paint that produces a metallic effect finish. Suited to creating an attention grabbing feature wall or enhancing the trim on wooden furniture and craft items, the metallic effect can add a touch of luxury and create a sumptuous environment.
To attain the best results, the surfaces to be painted need to be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface impurities.
- Remove any flaking and old, unsound paint either by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper
- Additional safeguards should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful levels of lead
- Treat any mould or organic growths with scouring pad and bleach solution (1 part to 3 parts water)
- If required, wash the surface to remove any dirt, grease and dusty or powdery residues
- Any surface imperfections are to be be plugged and sealed with a suitable filler and then sanded flat
- Rinse with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly
- Mask off adjourning areas to protect from overspill when painting
Please Note: Craig And Rose Artisan Stainless Steel Effect is not suitable for highly absorbent surfaces
Always create a test area beforehand to evaluate the product suitability and the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
To reliably maintain the colour consistency, purchase enough paint for each project. If multiple tins are purchased, pour into a clean container and mix together to ensure a consistency of tone and colour.
Do not apply when the surface or room temperatures are likely to be near to freezing as this could damage the surface of the paint.
- Blend the pigment and paint medium thoroughly by stirring the paint before and regularly during the application, ensuring to work the sides and base of the tin to guarantee a consistent blending of the pigment and the paint
- Test the chosen application method beforehand on a large surface, such as cardboard, as a test area rather than the project area and to practice the technique needed for the full application
- Apply initially by brush around the edges of the project area with a good quality synthetic brush and then the main area with a medium pile roller
- Apply the second coat in small areas with the roller as close to the edges as possible, covering any brushstrokes. Then, whilst the paint is still wet, drag the brush across in random directions, ensuring to overlap brushed areas
- If a spraying system is to be employed, then dilute Craig And Rose Artisan Stainless Steel Effect by 5%
- The normal finishing process requires 3-4 thin coats, however this can vary depending the application processes
Please note: Do not touch up after the application as this will not match the original layer.
